Beverly
Hills Intensive English Centre &
Narwee Public School Cultural Exchange
Program
Beverly
Hills IEC and Narwee Public School
established
links in 2006. Students have been working through peer tutor programs
aimed at developing leadership capacity, interfaith understanding,
and an appreciation of the contribution of culturally diverse communities
to Australia.
ACTIVITIES in 2008
Through student-centred activities in dance, drama and music,
students of Narwee Public School and Beverly
Hills IEC are gaining a shared understanding of the influence
of cultural and linguistic heritages on the personal identities
of all students.
• Students at both schools participate in a peer support program
each Wednesday morning for 30 minutes.
• Students work together with a music teacher to compose a
piece of music that reflects their understanding of harmony.
• Students are learning a collection of dances and songs representing
the cultural groups of the schools.
• Students will present their songs and dances at an Education
Week Showcase. This program and the celebration during
Education Week will support the work we are jointly
undertaking to develop and maintain respect, goodwill and understanding
between Australians of all cultures.
