It
was Wednesday, 5th June. After several cloudy days, the sun shone
bright and warm. It was a beautiful sunny day. Our class and Ms. Fletcher's
class were going to Ocean World for an educational excursion. All
the students were very excited because we would go by train and then
a ferry.
We took a long
time to get to Circular Ouay. But when we were on the ferry, the views
were really stunning. We admired The Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge
and the wonderful blue sea. Sometimes the seagulls were chasing the
ferry. I wanted to take a photo with them, but I couldn't. It was
half past nine when we reached Manly. Then we walked to the Aquarium.
There was a big tank in front of the Aquarium and some huge sea turtles
were swimming in it. A few people put their hands in to attract the
turtles, but they didn't heed them.
Inside the
Aquarium, there was a huge round tank in the middle of the room and
five smaller tanks set around it. We looked at the fishes in every
tank and took notes. There were baby crocodiles, corals and sponges.
"What is the name of this fish?" asked Annie. "What
is it? It looks so strange." said Hua thoughtfully. We really
had a lot of questions to ask.
After we had
observed all the things on the first floor, we went to the ground
floor. There was a room which looked like a huge tank with a tunnel
in it. So, when we were in the tunnel, we could see the fish on either
either side and above our heads as if we were under the sea!
Inside the
tank, there were schools of fish-sharks, Stingrays, Cuttle Fish and
a lot of fish that I didn't know. We looked and learnt. Then two men
dressed ir underwater gear and carrying a bucket of small fish began
to feed the sharks. It was fun. When the man put a fish near a shark's
mouth, the shark didn't move at first and then swiftly gulped down
the fish. Some of the sharks wanted to eat more but the man just pushed
them away. After they had finished, I found something strange- the
Cuttle Fish and the Stingrays. The Cuttle Fish could change the colour
of their skin within minutes. When they were angry, their skin was
red. When they were afraid, their skin was white and when they wanted
to find a mate, their skin became colourful. The shape of the Stingray's
mouth was very funny. It wore a perpetual smile. When the Stingray's
swam over my head, I could see their 'smiling' mouths.
The next program
we saw was a seal show, one from New Zealand and the other one from
Australia. The seal from New Zealand was fatter and slower than the
Australian one. But both of them did excellent tricks. Then it was
lunch time. We felt tired and hungry. So we walked to Manly Beach
to have our lunch. I shared my lunch with the seagulls, I thought
they may be hungry too.
After lunch
it was time to go home; We went back to the Quay. When the ferry came.
We suddenly discoveredthere were a few students missing! Everyone
was really worried about the missing students, but they came back
at the last minute. Then everybody got on the ferry happily. We all
had an enjoyable excursion and it also helped us learn more about
fishes. We are looking forward to our next excursion. |
